Tate's Bar - Winston Salem, NC

My four days in Winston Salem were absolutely brilliant. It is always so good to be back in my home state, catching up with friends, seeing the familiar, and then trying something new. Tate's Bar, located in the heart of Winston Salem, is relatively new I hear.

This place bills itself of specialty craft cocktails. Their drinks menu is classically original. What I mean by that is this... They have drinks like the Old Fashioned, Manhattan, and Gin Ricky, all artfully listed with origins and dates of discovery, but there are a few twists and turns that make Tate's Bar feel fresh. I had a Vodka Gimlet. It was lovely, and so beautifully presented with cucumber slices adorning the glass that I felt very, very special for drinking it.

Tate's Bar also has small plate food. I had the spiced cashews, but the Southern favorites like pimiento cheese and deviled eggs looked good too.

For atmosphere, they have a wonderful outside sofa bar area, but inside feels all dark and cool and loungy, in a comfy way. I loved our entertainment, a wonderful gentleman playing old Johnny Mercer tunes on an upright piano.

Their were people there relaxing after work, groups of girls for an evening out, a date or two even. The range of Tate's Bar's patrons were so varied that no one would feel out of place. Check out their web site for specials, pick the one that works for you (Monday I know is half priced glasses of wine and their list is decent) and give it a try.
