Pour Some Sugar on Me.... Sugar's Ribs, Chattanooga, TN

ok. I know BBQ is a sensitive subject. I've written about it before. But sometimes, a rib joint has something for everyone. Trust me

I will admit, being a North Carolinian, I'm picky. Most BBQ is big let down once you leave Lexington, but I adore Sugars.  It really is, as the big neon sign claims, "Big Time BBQ".  Perched high up on the ridge cut in Chattanooga, it beckons to those traveling through, or those of us that live there, promising good food and fun. For the fun, I suggest sitting on the deck, getting misted in the heat, listening to oldie's rock and feeding the petting zoo (goats) on call to relieve you of corn husks and trash shrubbery on the ridge. For the food, get the ribs.

You can not go wrong with the ribs no matter where you are from. There is a sauce for you on the table to moisten up these dry rubbed scrumptious piggies. BBQ sauce is like a passport. You can tell where people are from  based on their sauce.  I favor the NC vinegar mixed with a bit of TN sweet. These ribs are slow cooked and tender, but aren't overcooked. They reheat them on the grill, and it makes it feel like picnicking when you sit on the deck. Don't expect piping hot. Since you are outside with goats, who cares if you pick up a rib and gnaw on it publicly. It does not make you less lady like! I like mine with mayonnaise slaw. No... this os not overly goopy. For those of you that may have concern, they have vinegar slaw too. I like that on a pulled pork sandwich, on the menu for those who are gluten-free.

Speaking of, if you are gluten-free, don't eat the corn bread. It is made the old-fashioned way, but with enriched corn meal. No good for us. Get that corn on the cob instead. Also, if you go in, solicit for gluten-free beer. They don't have it yet, but I'm hoping, because there are sooo many good gluten-free options on the menu.

The verdict. It's "Big Time". It's finger lickin' good the way the you want ribs. And it's fun. Manage your expectations... this is not TX/NC/Memphis rib joint but a great family-friendly fun place. So go already and get some Sugars!

Love Canyon Griil & Boathouse so thought
Sugars would be good. No way. Several items
on menu not available, tough under cooked
ribs & no flavor sauces. I know good barbecue

Oh I hate that! I have to admit I had tricky service at the downtown location, but the ribs at both has been fall of the bone tender the times I have been. I like a rib without sauce so I don't usually do Sticky Fingers, but thanks to your recommendation I will have to try Schufords soon!

FTR Sticky Fingers does have dry rub as a choice for their ribs. In addition to Schufords head south down Market to Porker's BBQ for excellent ribs and pulled pork. Local dude with a magic touch for smoking just right.
