Siam Square - Smyrna, GA
I had lunch today at a place that was really quite yummy. Since you have to turn into a Shell station to find the place, I felt the need to do a quick write up to let others know it exists.
Siam Square in Smyrna, on Windy Hill Rd., is a tasty little Thai joint with class and flair. It doesn't look like much... in fact, it is located in a strip mall and has a cheap-o vinyl banner out front. Walk in though and the restaurant is pleasantly styled in a hip, modern eastern inspired vibe. What a surprise! The trance music at lunch was so soothing as I got comfortable and waited for my friend. The staff never rushed me as I sipped my jasmine tea... a good thing since I was 15 minutes early!
I was told to try the fresh rolls, and I was terribly hungry, so I had that, and tofu basil, and tom kha gai. My server came back to make sure chicken in the soup was ok since I went vegetarian on the entree. How conscientious! Everything was great. The tofu basil gets a B (not enough brightness and the blob of rice in the middle a little off-putting) and the fresh rolls a B+ (I have had better sauce but the rolls were tasty).
The soup gets an A. It was thicker than some I have had, with plenty of mushrooms and cilantro. The chicken was well cut and tender, not over-cooked. It was warm but not overly hot. Yum! and I thought the plate was pretty too!
I will make it back to Siam Square to try other things - I hope soon! I may just have the soup and some spring rolls. What a perfect idea for lunch!
