Risotteria - New York, NY

I was going to New York a few weeks ago, and a dear friend suggested I try Risotteria for dinner. She said they had gluten-free pizza. It sounded tempting, but then again, it could be a recipe for disaster so I passed. Dumb. Totally dumb.

Thank my lucky stars I had to go back to NYC this week and that I went down to Soho to find this place. Risotteria is beyond worth it. Really. Take a cab. Take the subway. I don't care.... just get there. Preferably straight from the airport to get your fix.

Here's the scoop. Risotteria serves up amazing gluten-free food. Far beyond risotto, they have gluten-free pizza, paninis, and pasta like gnocchi in big bowls to share. And their breadsticks, which they bring to you when you sit, and desserts that tempt from the case right at the entry are the bomb.

I had a shrimp and gruyere pizza, with pinot grigio and a winkie to follow. So let's talk pizza. Risotteria serves it up on a crisp, cracker like crust. It is yum and perfect and I could go on but then I wouldn't talk about the sauce. It is sweet, but with noticeable pieces of onion and tomato. I'm pretty sure it's homemade. The cheese is grated and melty to just a touch brown like I like. The shrimp were plentiful... 2-3 per slice, but not over powering. This was a delicate but really filling pie! At $17, it was a little pricy for a pizza, but so danged good I didn't care a bit!

Risotteria has wine and gluten-free beer. I was particularly pleased with their weekly bottle special... $15 for a bottle of red in the city. Wow. What value! And the desserts... all gluten-free. A winkie is like a twinkie, only g-f. Yeah me! (this is probably shocking friends who think I only eat healthy food hehehe!). In addition to all the wonderful food and beverage, you can buy their mixes and re-create the experience at home. Perfect if you live all the way down South!

I am in love with Risotteria. I tried another g-f pizza place in the city, and it was such a let down after my experience. Like I said in the beginning, go there. Even if you don't have to be gluten-free. Trust me you will like it!
