Researching activities for our Valentine's trip to Nashville, I found an event called the "Sugar Social" on localwineevents.com. Held in an art gallery, it offered sweet treats and wine samplings for the afternoon. 

Sugar Social is the bran child of Melissa Parks, founder and president of Gabe's Gurl Event Productions. Melissa bills herself as a die-hard foodie and a networking fiend. She's putting these two skills together to create events that showcase specialty food and beverage brands in Nashville. Delightful, enthusiastic, and super friendly, she's the girl you want on your team when you're planning an event!

Sugar Social was the first of these and showcased gourmet gifts and treats from Noi Gifts and Gourmet. Obviously, that pesky gluten-free thing got in the way of my sampling the tortes, cakes, and cookies, but I discovered a new love... chocolate covered pomegranate seeds! Tangy and rich, this could become my new pick me up! Melissa served 3 drink choices, all in theme. The first was a chocolate porter beer, the second was a Barefoot Rose Cuvee sparkling wine, and the third was X-rated liquor served in little chocolate cups. Be careful with these! Don't eat the cup until all the liquor is gone or you will get it in your hair. Not that it happened to me of course... never! All of the treats were highlighted by the bright, fresh contemporary art of Olga, the artist in residence at O gallery. 

Sugar Social will be held the 2nd Saturdays of the month at the O Gallery on the 2nd floor of the Arcade, a covered shopping area between 4th and 5th Ave. just up from Church St. Get your ticket through localwineevents.com or the Gabe's Gurl website and support Melissa in her new Nashville endeavor!
